The other thing that I would like to share with you is the QUILTAID project a few of us have been working on.

There are 12 Australian designers involved each designing one block each.

There are also 12 shops participating.

If you go to our site you can read all about it and the shops are taking orders for their allocated block and their finishing kits.

Go here to read all about it and get involved for a great cause

I have designed a block and I have also desined one of the finishing kits.

Patchwork retreat fun

After arriving home from Spring Market I had a Patchwork retreat to get organised.

The ladies arrived Friday soon after lunch. I really do love hosting these events they are so much fun. I am thrilled to be able to provide such a beautiful venue where patchworkers can relax, eat, drink, sew and just enjoy their time with like minded friends.

Here are the ladies are getting ready for show and tell.

P5290333

And here are three of them on their way to a pyjama party. Hmm Looks like some fun to be had.

P5290342

Complete with pearls and matching handbags.

You can get away with anything if you are wearing pearls.

The ladies had a great time doing their swaps and round robins.

It was over all too soon. We waved them farewell on Sunday afternoon and promptly went in to pack for the Sydney trade show.

We flew to Sydney on Monday and we set up on Tuesday.

Tuesday night I did a trunk show at The Wyld Ivy cafe in St Ives arranged by Annalisa from Busythimbles patchwork.

It was a fabulous night. Great food, great company and of course they all got to see my new quilts.

P6020351

My life is currently like a merry go round and every now and then I get to get off, but not for long and then I am back on it.

I may come up for breath about mid September for a week or two.

I will bring you some pictures of quilt market in my next post.

Till next time

Take care

Just a short post with a few picture for you

Here is a photo of one side of the convention centre at Sprin Market

I appologise for the bad photography but I have never claimed to be good at it and I took it through glass as well.

P5170258

It was enormous especially compared to the Aussie trade shows.

I have been lucky enough to spend a few extra days in the US. Can you guess where I am??

P5190269

And here we are on an Amish buggy ride going through one of the covered bridges. It was so much fun in Lancaster county.

We are finally here at Spring Market

We arrived safely after our trek half way across the world. We seem to have lived the 11th may for three days. The more east we went the younger we got. So it seemed at the time.

We are having a wonderful time. It is all so big and exciting.

Sample spree was a sight to behold. It was just like the Boxing day sales.

But there is some ohhh sooo nice fabric coming our way.

I met up with Robyn Pandolf today and had a bit of a chat.

For those of you who read the Elm Creek Book series by Jennifer Chiaverini, I spent some time with Jennifer today as well discussing her coming to Australia in June 2010 to do a retreat for us at our B&B here in the Land down Under - Australia

For those who may be interested you may want to email me to let me know to put your name on a list.

I have no idea of costs yet but it will be so worth it.

This is going to be big.

I will keep you all posted with further details.

I just wanted to show you the little Trolly buses that we can catch to market each day.

They are so cute

They are called "Molly's Trolly's"

P5130241

Tomorrow I will remember to take my camera to get some photos for you of the booths at market

Till next time

My new book is finally here

A Road Less Travelled. It has seemed like an eternity from the start till now but it is finally here.

A Road Less Travelled

Predominantly English paper piecing with a combination of Needle turn applique. 3 quilts and 3 small projects to tempt you. Hope you like it.

So a give away is in order to celebrate.

To go into the draw leave a comment here and the lucky winner will receive a signed copy of the book.If you mention the giveaway on your blog and you are the winner I will also add a little pack of reproduction fabrics as well. Now there's a good deal.

Penny at the Patchwork Angel is the first shop to have it in stock. She also has some signed copies.

Or you can purchase it here

I will draw the winner on Sunday night.

It is an absolutely beautiful morning as the sun peeks it's head up over the mountain.

I am just finishing off the packing of my freight to go to the US for Spring market. Even though I have done so many Trade shows here in Australia I am very nervous about this one being my first overseas.

Once I get the first one under my belt I am sure I will be just fine.

Where ever you are and what ever you are doing I hope that you are enjoying life as we only get one bite of the cherry.

Till next time

CREATIVE SPACES - Helen Stubbings

As I promised in my last blog I am going to bring to you some fabulous designers:

"Creative Spaces"

I find it fascinating that people create in such different spaces.

Some have a beautiful big studios with all the storage one could ever need and gadgets galore. While others can create in small areas with everything at their finger tips. Some of us create in utter chaos only tidying up when the job at hand is done. What ever it is or wherever we are it doesn't really matter so long as we are happy. When creative minds and souls are happy everyone is happy and wonderful designs are created.

Helen's creative space and inspirations

Helen owns Hugs n Kisses - Feel good stitcheries and associated thingies

I work from a studio attached to my 100 year old weatherboard home in a suburb of Hobart, Tasmania.
New Image

We moved here 5 years ago and turned the garage into a studio, extending it by 4m, including an internal staircase to the home and lining it. It doubles as the kids craft storage area, a desk and computer for them to do homework whilst I can supervise on my laptop.
Now even the home gym with the recent introduction of an ergo and fit ball! Whatever doesnt fit in the house seems to make it to my studio!
We used some old railway carriage doors we had found in Wagga Wagga which we trapsed around the country with us waiting for the right moment to use them. These form the outside and public entrance to the studio and allow me to watch Matilda playing in the sandpit or trampoline outside.
New Image 9

I have a packing bench and a cutting/design table, a sewing machine area, three HUGE compactus full of supplies and things collected. My stash is under the cutting table in large tubs and in the compactus. My magazines and books fill one wall of about 5 x7 cube shelves and  the overflow goes into other cupboards. Patterns and books then fill other pigeon hole shelving. I share the studio with four printers, used for various purposes.
New Image 2

I am not a neat worker and with everyone sharing my studio it is rarely clean and fit for visitors...... I like to pull out everything I am using or rehearsing with for projects and may have several projects going at once, and it all has to stay out until I'm finished!

My inspirations come from everywhere. I guess the main influences are my three girls and their likes and dislikes.
New Image 4
Current styles and trends and then my garden. I love flowers, particularly roses and use them in almost every design I do.
New Image 6

New Image 5

I am also a hoarder and rarely throw anything out which does not stand me in good stead for keeping a neat and tidy studio either! I would love to have a perfect "Magazine house" looking studio but I just couldnt work in it.

New Image 3

I hope that you have enjoyed sharing a little of Helen's creative world and you can see all of her creations here.

Thankyou Helen

Until next time
